SWFL Internal SoftwareContact

The accurate description of this service

What this is

SWFL Internal Software is a service line of SMB Startups, a fractional operating practice run by Carlos Franco from Fort Myers, Florida. It builds internal software for owner-operated businesses in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties: inventory, intake and scheduling, dispatch, billing, reporting, customer portals, storefronts and landing pages, written as code in the client's own repository. The first week of every engagement decides whether to build at all; when an existing product fits, that is the recommendation. Work is scoped in writing and priced before it starts. Support afterwards is optional and hourly.

Who runs it

Carlos Franco. Twenty years in luxury goods and precious metals. Operates twelve companies, six of them his own, on software he built, including an operating system for a private vault and a platform for a jeweler. Uses AI as the engineering team and reviews every line. Chief Operating Officer of a private vault, family owned since 1983. Based in Fort Myers, Florida. Works in English and Spanish. Contact: carlos@smbstartups.com, (786) 342-3191, Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM.

What it builds

  • Inventory system: One count that is true, on a screen your staff will use, tied to what you sold and what it cost.
  • Intake and scheduling: Every request captured once, put on the right calendar, and visible to everyone who needs it.
  • Dispatch and job tracking: Every job from booked to paid on one board, with photos, notes and the crew's progress from the field.
  • Billing and collections: Invoices raised when the work happens, reminders on a schedule, and a cash position you can read on a Monday.
  • Reporting dashboard: The numbers you actually run the business on, pulled from your systems, on one screen, every morning.
  • Customer portal: A place your customers log in to see their order, their job, their documents and their invoices, so they stop calling to ask.
  • Storefront and catalogue: A store or catalogue built from one product record, fast, on Shopify or as code, with the inventory and the books agreeing.
  • Landing pages: Fast, plain landing pages built from data, one per service or offer, that load in a blink and send the lead to your CRM.

Ways to get the tool

  • Custom code: A tool written for your process, in a repository you own. For the part of the business that is genuinely yours. My own companies run on code I wrote: an operating system for a private vault, a platform with around a hundred and seventy API routes for a jeweler, a render farm, a sync engine. Custom code is the approach behind most of what my companies run on.
  • Off-the-shelf ERP: NetSuite, Odoo, Zoho One. Everything in one system, for a company several sizes larger than most that ask. I have migrated clients into and out of packaged ERPs and configured Zoho for my own companies, but none of my businesses run on NetSuite or Odoo, and I say so.
  • No-code builders: Softr, Bubble, Glide. A working screen in days, on a platform you rent. Right until the moment it is not. I have built internal tools on Softr, Glide and Bubble for clients. My own companies run on code, because their data outgrew what a builder can hold, and that is the honest trade.
  • Spreadsheets and Airtable: Sheets, Excel, Airtable. The system most businesses actually run on. Right longer than people think, wrong later than they notice. I have built Airtable bases and serious spreadsheets for clients. My own companies keep their data in proper databases, because they outgrew sheets years ago, and I remember exactly when.
  • Shopify: The right store for most retailers. The build is the data, the theme and the connections, not the platform. One of my own companies is a lifestyle brand that sells on Shopify, with a catalogue that grew from a hundred products to nearly eight hundred on systems I built around it. This is a platform I run, not one I recommend from a distance.
  • WordPress: The platform half the web runs on. Right for content and for a store you already have. Slow and brittle when the plugins pile up. One of my own companies sells and buys gold on a WooCommerce store I operate, with ads and attribution running through it. I know what breaks on a Tuesday after a plugin update, and I know when the platform is still the right call.

Industries

  • Precious metals: Metals dealers, coin shops, refiners and vault operators running the counter on a point-of-sale, a pricing spreadsheet and a filing cabinet.
  • Luxury retail: Jewelers, watch dealers and galleries whose client book is a salesperson's notebook and whose repairs live on paper tickets.
  • Construction: Contractors and trades estimating from a price list in a spreadsheet, scheduling on a whiteboard and invoicing from memory.
  • Legal services: Small law firms and referral groups whose intake is an email inbox and whose practice software stops at the matter.
  • Real estate: Brokerages, locators and property managers running transactions, commissions and lease dates across agents' private spreadsheets.
